Origami Fusion

ABOUT THE PROJECT

This project includes a structured cropped blazer with a pleated organza skirt. The goal of designing this ensemble was to explore the use of geometrics in fashion. As such, I began with cutting and surging the fabric for the skirt. Then, I placed it in an origami fabric mold I’d created and steamed it. As for the Blazer, I created a diamond-shaped sleeve by adding a dart from the cuff to the elbow—to keep the consistency of the design throughout the garment.

The creation process of this mold consisted of approximately 15 hours of work–from designing the pattern at the hem to creasing and folding the paper and then placing the fabric between the two layers and binding it. Afterward, the fabric was steamed in the mold for 30 minutes and then put under pressure for about a day before being taken out and completed.
